ゲストI’ve got a 2015 BMW 335i and for the past few weeks there’s this low pitched whine that starts around 60 km/h and gets louder as I speed up, but it doesn’t change when I turn left or right like a typical wheel bearing would. The sound is still there whether I’m on the gas or coasting in neutral, which makes me think it’s not transmission related. A mechanic friend put a stethoscope on the rear diff and said it sounds rough inside, maybe worn pinion bearings. I’m dreading the cost of replacing the whole differential because the dealer quote was insane. After searching around, I found a place that specializes in rebuilding them and they offer a proper Differential Repair Center BMW Dubai that can replace just the bearings and seals instead of swapping the whole unit. Has anyone here had a similar whine that turned out to be the diff and did rebuilding it solve the noise completely? Also wondering how long I can safely drive like this before it fails because I need the car for work every day. Really hoping it’s not the crown wheel and pinion themselves because that gets expensive fast.
